Full length rain protection!
I go to university on BC's notoriously wet West Coast. It rains heavily here most days in fall, winter, and spring. I hate getting wet and I walk long distances to class and work in the pouring rain, so I take my rain gear seriously. This means that I wear a long raincoat and tall rain boots to stay completely protected and dry. This long raincoat has been my favorite piece of clothing ever. I just bought my second one after 2.5 years of daily use during the rainy seasons. Short rain jackets would not protect my legs from rain, leaving a wet gap between my knee-high rubber boots and the bottom of the rain jacket, and umbrellas on their own are useless, especially in our nasty cold sideways driving rainstorms. Thus, I wear this long raincoat which covers me down to my calves, and I'm 5'7". If you're short, it will be close to floor-length. It is not fashionable. I am known for wearing this long coat. No one knows what I look like outside on rainy days as I am always fully covered up in my full length raincoat and tall rubber boots (yes, I'm that girl, with my tall Hunter rain boots!!), but I am dry, and all the others are miserable and wet. I now enjoy my long walks in the rain with this proper gear. I zip up to the top, snap up to the top, pull on my tallest rubber rain boots, put up my hood, put on my rain gloves, and even use an umbrella as I walk along in my waterproof suit of armor, enjoying the torrential downpours!
